One Adventure Ends...Another Begins

This has been a great adventure.
Not only can I create actively in the human world, I can go far beyond my physical boundries and be anywhere and everywhere.

Here's my take on this last part:

I've tapped into YouTube before but did more with it because of this project.
It is great for checking out fun stuff like cat videos and cool music....but its also a great resource for information when you're trying to learn more about history and events.
(Did you know cats were considered Gods in Ancient Egypt?
With all humility I believe we still are.)

I found Podcast Alley and had to stroll down it.
Such strange and wonderful audio experiences I found!
You can listen to a cat purr (good for soothing upset creatures), hear humans talk on and on about stuff they are expert in and stuff they know nothing about.
What technical wizardry!
Anyone can podcast!
I did learn one amazing fact- in Toyko there is a cafe where the customers can interact with the resident cats. (litter boxes are discretely hidden). Local laws don't allow pets to live with people in many of the residential areas so they come to the cafe to get their daily minimum dose of feline affection. They said the bulk of the customers are women and children.
OK....so whats up with the guys in Toyko? Afraid to show their softer side?

Digital media is great for many patrons.
I looked up cats and got Cats Cradle by Vonnegut.
(one of my favorite books by my favorite author!!) so I downloaded it.
Now it is great to have audio books so available, but you have to stay near your computer to hear it. and my human likes to listen while driving. I am not sure this would help her any.
Another objection I have is when a human is reading a book, it is a cats duty to push their way between the book and the reader. Sitting in front of the speaker just isn't the same.

And as a farewell note to the 23 Things adventure, I'd like to say thank you.
I never would have created my own blog if you'd not challenged me to do so.
I wouldn't have met so many other bloggers who share common ground with this fabulous feline. In short I would have missed out on a lot of great entertainment and friends.
I appreciate the opportunity.
I enjoyed del.icio.us (it is!!!), reading and adding to WIKI's, creating some fancy stuff in ZOHO and watching all those other puss faces who parade across YouTube.

Its been lots of fun.
And now I am going to really take over this blogger stuff and blaze my cattitude across cyberspace!!!!

Web 2.0 Awards List

I never dreamed there were so many cool tools available. It's going to take me a while to try them all. But for starters Del.icio.us is the easiest bookmarking I've set my paws upon. A tap of the key and something is mine! Cool!!

WorldCat (oh my, what a delightful name) is great. I can look up a book even if I don't have all the information about it. Reference librarians must LOVE this one when they get those millions of questions about books!

Parking search was strange. Humans actually pay money to park? I just sit down and that is that.

I checked for cat speak in Mango languages but it wasn't listed. They are missing a large audience with that omission.

I'm Cooked- recepies for cooking! If I'd been able to find cat fud recipies I'd have printed them out and put them on my humans pillow.

Color blender- you get to mix pigments to make new colors. I found a whole bunch of new ideas the humans could use to paint their houses. This wouls be a great tool in the childrens room to teach colors. Really cool!

There's a lot more...and I'll check them out later. Try some on yourself! Its lots of fun!!!

Zoho story- Cats ARE Special!

Adam said, 'Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked with me every day, but now I don't see you any more. I'm lonely, and it's difficult for me to remember how much you love me.'
And God said, 'No problem! I will create a companion for you who will be with you for ever, and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you can remember my love even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish, or childish, or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourself.'
And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam, and he wagged his tail. And Adam said, 'Lord, I have already named all the animals in your Kingdom, and I cannot think of a name for this new one.'
And God said, 'No problem! Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name shall be a reflection of my own name: and you will call him DOG.'
And Dog lived with Adam, and was a companion to him, and loved him. And Adam was comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content, and wagged his tail.
After a while, it came to pass that Adam's Guardian Angel came to the Lord and said, 'Lord, Adam has become filled with pride. He struts and preens like a peacock, and believes he is worthy of adoration. Dog has taught him that he is loved, but perhaps too well.'
And the Lord said, 'No problem! I will create for him a companion who will be with him for ever, and who will see him as he is. This companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know that he is not always worthy of adoration.'
And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam. And Cat would not obey Adam. And when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he was reminded that he was not the supreme being. And Adam learned humility. And God was pleased.
And Adam was greatly improved. And Dog was happy. And Cat did not give a damn one way or the other.

PBCLS WIKI

The sandbox is interesting- like reading the top ten lists Letterman did.

Entertaining.

But more important as an information sharing medium it's purrfect.

Get the word out, and the sky is the limit of the brain storming that could be accomplished.

Many potential uses- but the public/employees/etc all need to be aware of its existence.

It's a small kitten that may grow up to be King of the Jungle!

WIKI is like petting a kitty

WIKI really reminds me of petting a kitty. It gives you a chance to do something that is appreciated by someone else (sharing information or extending your perceptions). In return you get to review the thoughts and perceptions of others which may assist you in formulating or expanding your own. Both you and the kit benefit!

Their use in libraries could be endless, but I'm going to focus on just one- the youth services and young adult departments.

This would make planning a talent show or producing a play SO much easier. Coordination is instantly updated and new ideas shared immediately. You could publish the script and get feedback from all quarters- then rewrite using the best of the submissions. Planning for sets and costumes would also benefit- more ideas, more suggestions- all of which would make it better.
Follow ticket distribution, promotions- get info to stage hands and lighting people- publish your needs and get a broader response- so much comes to mind! You could run the whole thing- right up to last minute info- without a million phone calls, text messages or emails. Your children's section would be the top cat!

Meowism

I am Majick Cat. This blog is named after me. I am an eleven month old Russian Blue. My tail got squished before I was born. It still has all the bones of a regular tail, but not in the same places. My human calls it my pompom on a stick. I think it's even better looking than a garden variety tail. And more expressive!

And you thought a Rubik's Cube was tough...

A Cat Peers into the Future

I do have a crystal ball (but refuse to wear those silly wizard hats) but even with that I can only guess and say what I would like to see tomorrow shake out to be library wise.

Technology is great and important to have available as so many get their info that way. But books can never be tossed out as irrelevent.

Lets face it, you can't take a laptop out under a tree or to the beach (OK,OK you can, but it aint the same) You can't read to a child from a laptop (hey honey, I'll read the words and you hit the next button) Looses something in translation, doesn't it?

The tactile sensations of a book, the way it smells, the texture of the paper and cover. the illustrations you can refer back to and study (and if you own it you can make notes or add your felines to the pages)

Books are majickal.

Books are important things.

I hope libraries increase their technology to meet patron demands,
but may they always showcase books
- those tomes of knowledge and entertainment-
so we never forget how important they are to who we are.

Technorati 's worth one paw up!

OK, I worked my way through this one and am not as excited as I thought I'd be. One paw up is about the best i give it. Finding blogs about cats takes more time than it should as you have to go from page to page before you get to the whole , actual bloggers post. I selected some to save (hearted them) but its not as feline friendly as I found Del.ocio.us. Altho I did find some cats stuff if you want to check.

Del.ici.ous is the Cats Meow!!

IT came through and I am now as deliscious as the next furry feline!
I like being able to sort and file the websites I like- also find them again when the mood strikes me. And now the humans can't get upset that I keep filling up the favorites list with stuff I like, (They HAVE regretted the day they taught my how to play with their mouse!)

Tagging the Cat

This is a new kind of tagging for me. I've heard of the type you do with a can of spray paint- but this one keeps stuff you like so you can find it again later. It also allows you to share it with anyone who cares to look. So my fellow cat lovers- please be welcome to check out cat information- collected, inspected and tagged!!

Del.icio.us Technorati

Technorati is still working at allowing me to claim my site. Waiting for the spiders.......
Del.icio.us says my F drive is invalid...whatever that means. I am sure someone from IT will explain it to me sooner or later......

Got carried away on that last one....

I was so excited about putting my image on stuff I didn't answer all the questions you asked. I forgot to say that WebFeat has over 12,000 references to cats! Thats a lot of cat knowledge. I will read a few each night. (and if there is ever another of those days you don't open the library I'll read all day too...by the way could you leave some food out if you're going to do that again. I got really hungry!!!!)

Then I went to the LibraryThing page. I found over 30 books about cats in less than 10 minutes. That's more than 60 an hour or 4,320 a day!!! I'm going to be reading about my species for a VERY long time!!!

Images, Things and Feats!! Oh My!!

I never knew I could do so much with a picture.
I am going to make a poster of myself, and ....and postage stamps of myself, and..... and other good stuff too!!!!!!!

All I have to do is figure out how to get a hold of one of those plastic cards the humans use when they are on the computer, then I can order all kinds of cat tribute stuff and they'll send it right to my house.
I'll just have to plan a way to get to the mailbox before the humans.

I'm even going to have cards made of all my feline housemates and we can send them out to celebrate the Cat Days of Summer (and you thought only dogs had their days!)

It boggles my mind to learn how much stuff you can create. Maybe the humans will take down some of the things they have on the walls and hang my great stuff instead........

Thats pretty cool.

I will have a hard time limiting myself in my selections to add- there are an awful lot of cat connections to be made!

The range available is astonishing. I can connect with anything and everything if I want. And it shows me whats new so I don't have to search. Not a bad deal!

Technology, Toes and Tails

I love the computer.
With it I am Bast- the Egyptian Cat Goddess.
I can know all, find all and post all.

I can do it enthusiastically with my toe or ever so delicately with my claw.

The world is mine- I am everywhere at once.
With the computer I am the greatest cat that ever lived.
Majick from the tip of my nose to the tuft at the end of my tail.
Ya gotta love this 21st century stuff!
Meow!!!

Thoughts on 7 1/2 Habits by MajickCat

As a cat I feel qualified to comment on your list of 7 ½ Habits of Highly Successful Lifetime Learners. It is a list of great value even if the name is a bit cumbersome.

Begin with the end in mind.
No cat could ever catch a mouse without knowing exactly what the final result should be. You wouldn’t know what to look for or what to chase if you hadn’t identified what it was you wanted to accomplish.

Accept responsibility for your own learning.
Humans must raise their young differently than cats do. As soon as a kitten can get around and play with its littermates, mom goes back to her own life.
You either take responsibility for getting your own food or starve. You quickly realize it is up to you and you alone. However, the really clever cat gets itself adopted by a human, insuring a constant supply of food with no more effort than being your charming self.

View problems as challenges.
If humans thought like cats, they’d see the play potential in everything. That makes problems easier to deal with.
The dog next door runs along the fence and barks at me every time I go out.
It’s not a problem…it’s a challenge to see how much fun I can have with the silly drooler.
I start by making him run back and forth as I release my morning madness by racing in long circles. Then I slowly walk across the top of the fence making him try to jump as high as I am. The poor creature simply lacks my innate agility.
I spend hours playing with my dog neighbor. If I viewed him as a problem I might hesitate to go outside. But viewed as a challenge, he’s proven himself to be endlessly entertaining.

Have confidence in yourself.
Only humans would have to be reminded to have confidence. Every cat is positive it is the smartest, best looking and cleverest feline ever to grace the planet.
Humans claim their place at the top of the food chain, but if they have to be reminded to be confident, they must not really believe it.

Create your own learning toolbox.
I presume a learning toolbox is similar to a toy box, in which case it would be an invaluable collection.
Include things to remind you your limitations are imaginary- you can be a tiger even if you only weigh 5 pounds!
Maintain good relationships with neighbor cats- the two of you may need to work together. The whole world is there to help you if you are open to it.

Use technology to your advantage.
How could anyone hesitate to use something that has a mouse as its main interface device?
Talk about user friendly!!!!

Teach/mentor others.
Not every cat ‘gets it’. And when you’re a perfect feline you owe it to those younger to share your wisdom and tricks of the trade.
I know I learned a lot about surviving in the world at the paws of an old Tom. Now I spend time with younger kits trying to give them a paw up.

Play.
Excuse me… but not only did you put the most important thing last, you only assigned it half value. No wonder humans have problems figuring out how to live successfully.
Play should be integral to everything you do. It reminds you not to take yourself so seriously- and to enjoy each moment while it’s happening.
Humans could learn a lot from cats. Like stop worrying about what hasn’t even happened yet and start appreciating this majickal moment you’re in right now!

Bloggings Great @ Libraries!

O.K….I guess it’s time for me to make a confession…
I sneak in your library sometimes just as you are closing the door for the night. Being a very neat kit, you’ve never seen signs of my presence.

I have explored your books and find it interesting to see which were borrowed by people with pets.

I have also explored the electronic world (thank you to those who leave their computers on at night).

That’s when I saw you were inviting writers to create a blog. Since it didn’t say the author had to have only two legs and an opposable thumb, I thought I’d give it a try!

And if I can blog and share my feline insights on living happier- I am sure two legs would be great at it too. You never know when the cat next door might have just the right piece of information to make your plan complete.

Blogging seems to be just a high tech way of sharing- with a greatly expanded group.

It’s the cat’s meow if you ask me!!
